Intro, Seperation Of The Body Flashcards
Microscopic Anatomy
The study of small anatomical structures that cannot be seen by the naked eye (Ex: Cells and Tissues)
Macroscopic (Gross) Anatomy
The study of anatomical structures that can be seen by the naked eye. (Can be split further into 3 different sections)
Surface Anatomy (External body)
Regional Anatomy (Specific Regions of the body)
Systemic Anatomy (Specific organ systems)
List the levels of organization of the human body from smallest to biggest
Cells —> Tissues —> Organs—> Organ Systems —> The human
What is the definition of tissue? And what are the four major families of tissue
Tissues are a collection of similar cells that formed together to produce a specific function.
The 4 families of tissue are
1. Epithelial
2. Connective
3. Muscle
4. Nervous
Give me the Anatomical names for the regions of the “Arm” and “Forearm”
Brachial (Arm), Ante-brachial (Forearm)
What is the anatomical name of the thigh?
Femoral
What is the anatomical name of the leg?
The Anterior Crural
What is “Anatomical Position” and describe it
Anatomical position is when the figure is standing in an upright position where the hands are in a “Supinated form”.
(Always determine the left and rights of an anatomical figure from THEIR POV)
Define “Supine”
Lying down with the face up
(The hand can hold Soup)
Define “Prone”
Lying down with the face down
What are the two Anatomical directions used when describing something in a “Lateral” position, from side to side
Posterior/Dorsal and Anterior/Ventral
Anatomical direction relating something closer to the head?
Cranial or superior
Anatomical direction for something closer to the “Tail” of the body?
Caudal or Inferior
How do you describe of something is higher or lower than each other anatomically?
The term “Superior” is used to describe something higher, while “Inferior” is used to describe something lower
How do you describe something relating it to the midline of the body?
The term “Lateral” is used to refer to something away from the midline of the body while “Medial” is used to refer to something closer to the middle of the body
