Intro Material Flashcards
What constitutes the CNS?
the brain & spinal cord
What constitutes the PNS?
cranial & visceral nerves & ganglia
Give examples of glia.
oligodendrocytes
astrocytes
microglia
Where do afferents carry info?
to the CNS
Where do efferents carry info?
from the CNS
When we are talking nucleus in block 5 what are we talking about?
collection of neuronal cell bodies in white matter
What is this: when neuronal cell bodies are organized in layers?
lamina/cortex
What is a ganglion?
accumulation of neuronal cell bodies in the PNS
What are nerves?
collection of nerve fibers in the PNS
What are tracts? Give examples.
collection of nerve fibers in the CNS
Ex: tractus, fasciculus, funiculus, peduncle, lemniscus
What is a commisure, decussation? What does this have implications for?
crossing over of nerve tracts from one side to the other
**implications for localization of symptoms & neurological deficits
What is a neuropil?
(tangle of dendrites, axons, glia)
What are the 2 types of ganglia? Which have synapses?
sympathetic ganglia (have synapses) DRG (don't have synapses)
