LH surge precedes ovulation
Ovulation causes formation of corpus luteum
Corpus luteum secretes progesterone
Progesterone causes uterine lining to become secretory
Regression of corpus luteum causes drop in progesterone
Low levels of estrogen and progesterone cause uterine lining to shed
