Dysfunction or abnormality is NOT enough to consider something a psychopathology –> it needs to be harmful

–> The influence of social values on defining mental disorder –> society defines WHAT is a disorder

- Some psychopathology can represent adaptions –>i.e. depression after loss to conserve energy

  • Mental disorders are constructs
  • Cannot be directly observes or measure and therefore we need a multimodal approach and definition to understand it
  • Different approaches will capture different aspects but it cannot be complete
