Intro Flashcards
What is parasitology
Is study of parasites and the disease they cause
Types of parasites
1-Obligated parasite: must live contact with the host
2-Facultative or free living parasite: has para stages
Hosts types
1-Defentive host : sexual reproduction take place
2-intermediate host: Is alterntive to defentive host
3:Resevoir host : animal host serve as source of infection
Zoonosis: Is an animal infection that can transmissible to man directly or via a victor
Vector:Is the agent usually is an insect that transport infection from one host to anthor
Victors two types of
1: Biological vector: there is development stages
2-Mechanical vector : no development stages
Classification of parasites:
1-Protozoa: motile(Gardia spp) or non motile (plamodium)single cell
2-Metazoa:Helmints:macroscopic: multicellular
The Protozoa is subdivided into 5 major groups:
1-Amoebae:entamoebae histlytica
2-Flagillates: Gardia
3-Ciliates:Blantidium coli
4-Coccidia : plasmodium
3-microsporidia
Helminths is subdivided into 3 main groups:
1-Cestodes or tapeworms
-Taenia: cow and pig tapworm
- Enchiococcous granolosus: dog tapeworm
- fish tapeworm
- Dwarf tapeworm
2- Treatodes Flukes
Schistosoma spp
3-Nematodes or roundworms
~intestinal nematodes
Ascaries lumbricodies
Life cycle of parasite
1-one life cycle: needs one host
Gardia spp
2-two life cycles: need kore than one host
Plasmodium spp
Transmission of parasites
1- Through three oral route: tapeworms
2-Skin penetration: Ascaries
3: transplacental: malaria
4: Sexually: trichomonus vangils
5: By inhalation: E.vermicularies
