Intrinsic Muscles (Middle: Longissimus) Flashcards
What is the origin of longissimus thoracis?
Thoracolumbar fascia
Accessory processes and TPs of lumbar vertebrae
What is the insertion of longissimus thoracis?
Lower 9 ribs
Lower 9 TPs of thoracic vertebrae
(T4 to T12)
(T4 begins the origin of longissimus cervicis)
What is the blood supply and innervation of longissimus thoracis?
Innervation: dorsal rami of thoracic spinal nerves.
Blood supply:
posterior intercostal arteries
Lumbar arteries
Longissimus cervices originates and inserts on what kind of structure?
Transverse processes
What is the origin of longissimus cervicis?
TPs of T1 through T4
(Begins at the end of longissimus thoracis insertion)
What is the insertion of longissimus cervicis?
TPs of C2 to C6
What is the origin of longissimus capitis?
How is it unique?
Tps of C3 to C7
Originates on another muscle: Attaches to the medial border of longissimus cervicis.
Attachment is one segment lower than insertion of longissimus cervicis (C2 to C6)
What is the blood supply and innervation of longissimus cervicis?
Innervation:
Dorsal Rami of c4 to C6
(Slightly lower than insertion C2 to C6)
Blood supply:
Posterior intercostal arteries
What is the insertion of longissimus capitis?
Posterior edge of mastoid process of temporal bone
What is the blood supply of longissimus capitis?
Occipital artery deep cervical artery
What is the innervation of longissimus capitis?
Dorsal rami of C3 to C8
(Slightly lower than origin C3-C7)
