What can palpable lymph nodes signify?
Oral cancer- hard, fixed nodes
What is bimanual palpation?
Using index finger of one hand and fingers and thumb of other hand simultaneously to move or compress tissue, holding the fingers closely together to avoid missing areas
Where are the deep cervical nodes located?
Neck
What are the 3 salivary glands?
Parotid, Submandibular and sublingual
What is on either side of the SCM?
Posterior cervical triangle
Anteroir cervical triangle
What are the most common sites for oral cancer in the mouth?
▪Lateral border of the tongue (30%)
▪Floor of the mouth (14%)
▪Soft palate complex (posterior soft palate, uvula, and faucial arches) (11%)
▪Lower lip (38%)
What is erythroplakia?
Used to identify a red patch that is smooth, granular, and velvety and that cannot be diagnosed as any other disease without biopsy
What is leukoplakia?
Used to identify a white, plaquelike lesion that cannot be wiped off and cannot be diagnosed as any other disease without biopsy
What is hyper/hypodontia?
Hyperdontia- extra teeth
Hypodontia- absence of one or more teeth
What is anodontia?
Failure of all teeth to develop
What teeth are most commonly absent?
Third molars then max laterals then mand premolars
What is macrodontia/microdontia?
Larger/smaller than normal teeth
