A

Local rather than systemic injections:

  • Local Aneasthesia
  • Allergy tests
  • Tuberculin tests

Complications of ID injection?

A

Allergic Reactions e.g. dizziness, fainting, tachycardia, wheezing, sneeze, itch, urticarial rash, face/vocal core dswelling, N&V
Right up to Anaphylactic reaction

Procedure for preparing ID injection?

A

Hand hygiene and gloves
Attach needle
Withdraw cap, Draw up air, inject air into vial, invert vial, draw up medication
Purge air

Procedure for ID injection?

A

CHeck air purged
Disinfect skin (30 seconds + 30 seconds to dry)
Insert needle bevel (bevel up) at 10-15* (only the bevel not the whole needle!)
Inject (should form a bleb
Dispose of needle/syringe into sharps container
Clean up, remove gloves and do hand hygiene
