Loyalty: Duty Respect Selfless Service Honor Integrity Personal Courage
Loyalty
Unyielding devotion to someone or something. Department, crew, citizens. Loyalty is sometimes more easily illustrated then defined.
• Exp: marriage…
Duty
Fulfilling your obligations. Can you imagine a call toning out and a firefighter purposefully turning over and going back to sleep? We have a duty to perform the services expected of us.
Respect
Treat people as they should be treated. Or another way to put it, treat others as you would want to be treated. This is especially important within the firehouse. We are all on one team and we all have something to contribute (analogy of a body).
Selfless Service
Putting the welfare of your crew, department, and citizens above your own. I think that this is the greatest strength of the fire service. It is emboldened in our risk management profile…
Honor
Living up to all the Army Values. Honor is a matter of carrying out, acting, and living the values of loyalty, duty, selfless service, integrity, and personal courage in everything you do.
Integrity
Doing what’s right, legally and morally; whether anybody is watching or not.
Personal Courage
Face fear, danger, or adversity [physical or moral] without wavering.
