Interview Questions Flashcards
What are your weaknesses?
Keeping a constant level of communication with colleagues relating with project deadlines.
Taking on more work before other work has been finalised. You want to please everyone but it is best not to take on any new work before previous work has been finished
Why should we choose you for this job?
Being a TM1 developer is not just a job for me as I am passionate about it and find it technically challenging work and rewarding work. I take great pride in the work I produce as it reflects what I am capable of. I have studied TM1 outside of work and have gained digital accreditations and became an IBM certified TM1 developer. I have also purchased TM1 textbooks to expand my knowledge and help me to implement best practice.
What are your hobbies outside of work?
During lockdown I have started playing chess again. Chess requires a great level of concentration and I can happily spend hours strategizing and calculating several moves ahead in a game. I enjoy playing in competitions and I am working towards becoming a national master. I also enjoy reading and playing poker.
Where do you see yourself in five years’ time?
I’m excited about this position at BAE systems in 5 years’ time I would like to be regarded as an expert in my field. I would also be interested in taking on more managerial responsibilities. I have had the privilege to have worked with great managers and would like the opportunity to demonstrate what I have learnt.
Why are you leaving your current position?
Insolvency
What are your main strengths?
Executing new ideas – During my career I have brought innovative solutions to each company I have worked in. At TMS I was able to redesign the invoice approval system which saved time for property managers and reduced errors.
Attention to detail – During my time at Flybe I have had to have great attention to detail so that there are no errors in my work. In coding it is very easy to miss something small which can cause data to be completely wrong. I am often working with sensitive data, so I am very aware of the importance of development being accurate and tested thoroughly.
Work on my own initiative – I am happy working on my own initiative and have done so for most of my time at Flybe. I am comfortable not always having a set brief and being able to prioritise my own work.
Work well in a team – I enjoy being part of a systems team, I enjoy the comradery and being able to share ideas and work through problems together. I have had the privilege of working with some technically gifted people.
Why do you want to work here?
BAE systems is an incredibly impressive company that has achieved remarkable things. It has a rich history and began as can trace its roots back to 1560. To today, providing aircraft carriers, nuclear submarines and other sophisticated systems to the MOD and the Royal Navy. I believe this role is ideally suited to the experience I have gained in TM1 and visual basic. I believe I would be able to bring success to this position and provide valuable solutions. Looking at the job description I can see that you have a requirement for SQL coding so I would also be interesting in gaining skills in this area if it was needed.
What motivates you?
I am motivated by delivering high quality work and pleasing users and colleagues. It is rewarding when I am thanked for saving time for colleagues. At the core I want to help people produce more and better-quality information.
Do you prefer working by yourself or working in a team?
Given the choice I prefer working in a team as there is comradery and idea sharing and you are working towards a common goal. However, being a TM1 developer I have learnt that to produce good quality work I need to focus on a task on my own. It can be difficult to code new solutions if you have too many distractions. I believe it is best to have a balance between working by yourself and working in a team. At Flybe I would have two blocks of 2 hours a day where I would segregate myself from the rest of the office to development work. I would also spend two days a week working from home where it was easier to avoid distractions.
Tell me about an achievement you are proud of?
My proudest achievement would be the development of the Route Profitability model at Flybe. I was asked by members of Commercial, Revenue and Finance to build a new route profitability model. I held initial workshop sessions to brainstorm the design and I would map the data flow during these meetings. The build was long and difficult and had lots of complicated rules and processes. I met many obstacles along the way where I had to rethink the design and discuss further with my colleagues. However, it was a very rewarding experience and when the build was done, I was proud to demonstrate the finished model. The model combined data from multiple sources and was able to provide forecast information by flight which had never been done previously.
