some regions of care allow children’s capacity to make informed choices, did she understand the long-term health impacts?
Protection for boys as well as girls –
HPV was initially focussed on girls due to link to cervical cancer, but also causes cancer in boys such as throat anal and penile cancers. Reducing risk to boys also reduces spread of the virus, more comprehensive public health strategy.
Informed choice and consent –
Parents have sufficient information to make informed decision on her behalf, open line of communication required with accurate info.
Respect for values:
balance between respecting values and promoting the well being of the child and broader society.
Does not protect from STI:
Realistic expectations of HPV vaccine, scope and limtiations and reinforces the need for safe practices.
Describe Vaccine to lay person:
injection that protects against certain types of viruses (HPV) that can cause cancers, including cervical cancer in women. The vaccine helps the body build immunity to these viruses, reducing the chances of developing these cancers later in life.
Misinformation around vaccines like with MMR and Covid :
Countering myths with evidence based information, stressing that the HPV vaccine has been thoroughly tested and are crucial. Combatting misinformation is critical in maintaining trust in healthcare systems.
