Tina - Dispatched to a vehicle accident on the expressway … scene was chaos - vehicle had stopped in the lane of travel and was struck by another vehicle. male on scene with vehicle stating that he was not the driver his friend was … she was missing. she had been driving … stopped to pee and was struck by the vehicle when it was hit and thrown over the guardrail did not belive the guy etc
weakness
take on too many projects …. currently working on two grants and a donation item for the ymca … did 7 baackgrounds in a month or so … crashes etc …
always get them done but it does create stress at times … will work to delegate better as a supervisor
strength
hard worker … have never been afraid to take on the extra tasks (crime prevention, fto, backgrounds etc) grants, donations, citizens academy
Do them because i have a passion for law enforcement and this agency and community
conflict with a co-worker
union issues related to current contract …. people are passionate about certain things that they want to see in the contract - at times they can get aggressive with me and argue their point but i always do what i can to remain level headed and calm when talking about it. the facts are what they are and if it is an unknown i am careful to say that
in the end the matters settle where they do and we are all respectful of one another
adversity ?

what did i do to prepare for this
I have put in for and was sent to two supervisory classes in the past five years. i also took several segments on leadership on police one that we have access to.
I have been reading books on leadership (it’s your ship, forged in crisis)
met with chief and had several conversations about his vision for the police department and the future. His visions align with how i think about law enforcement - our primary function is to ensure the safety our residents and catch bad guys but we do have an essential community function to perform
what would i change?
short answer nothing at this time
new chief, new lt’s, about to be a third added
chief renye has already made a lot of changes since he took over, some big, some small but they are all changes in the right direction for this police department. I think we need to continue to empower our patrol officers to come up with good ideas, listen to them and see what they think
continue down the path of training and developing our next generation … hiring is KEY and then training who we have here
