  • Unable to fit the mask
  • Vomiting / risk of aspiration
  • Respiratory arrest or hypoventilation

  • Systolic BP <90mmHg

Steps for IV administration

A
  1. Select and prepare injection site
  2. Apply tourniquet
  3. Insert catheter using acceptable technique
  4. When flash is obtained and the catheter is advanced, safely withdraw the needle and place in sharps container
  5. Remove tourniquet
  6. Apply plastic protective film over IV site
  7. Flush IV using saline flush to insure patency

A

V1 / V2: 4th intercostal space on both sides of the sternum
V3: Midway between V2 and V4
V4: 5th intercostal space at the mid-clavicular line
V5: Anterior axillary line at the same level as V4
V6: Mid-axillary line at the same level and V4 and V5
RL: Anywhere above the right ankle and below the torso
LL: Anywhere above the left ankle and below the torso
RA: Anywhere between the right shoulder and wrist
LA: Anywhere between the left shoulder and wrist
