Interventions Flashcards
tf is an intervention?
changing the outcome
goals of prescription
what you doin and why
how are you going to do it
what are you gonna change or progress
how will you decide it
therapeutic exercise
system of planned body movt., actions to help with:
- prevent impairments
- better functions
- prevent risk factors
- help overall health
muscle length
passive ex. is movt. of the body using external forces
- pt. being lazy and doing nothing
indications for passive exercise
- when pt. is unable to do anything (ex. in coma)
- contraindicated when passive movt. increase pt. symptoms
benefits of passive exercises
- keeps ROM
- decreases contract and adhesion form
- keeps elasticity
- promotes circulation and joint motion awareness
- eval of joints and motion
- increases cartilage nutrition
- decrease pain
PROM does not
- prevent atrophy
- increase muscle strength or endurance
PROM does
can be skilled PT if its functional
- if not then its maintenance
AROM
active contraction of the muscles crossing the joint
AAROM
50-50 between pt. and PT to assist in movt.
goals for AROM and AAROM
- maintain elasticity and contractility in muscles (keeps sensory feedback and stimulate bones and joints)
- increase circulation and prevents clots
- develop coordination and skills to do functional things
how do we do AROM?
gotta demo the movt. to perform with pt.
- helps with smooth movt.
- the less, the better
- always be talking and tell them what they doin right
self-assisted ROM
protects tissue healing (HEP)
manual vs equipment based
