Interventions Flashcards
Mood chart
Tool that is used to keep a record of a person’s mood at regular intervals
Confrontation
A direct technique in which the counselor assertively challenges clients to face themselves realistically
Noncontingent reinforcement
A strategy where the teacher delivers ongoing, brief reinforcement to a student independent of the student’s behavior. For students with problem behaviors.
Exposure and response prevention
A therapy that encourages you to face your fears and let obsessive thoughts occur without ‘putting them right’ or ‘neutralizing’ them with compulsions
Imaginal exposure
A cognitive-behavioral technique that involves exposure to an image or story related to the client’s trauma. This is a memory reconsolidation-based treatment which promotes new learning and insight.
Stress inoculation therapy
A psychotherapy method intended to help patients prepare themselves in advance to handle stressful events successfully and with a minimum of upset. This includes the cognitive technique of restructuring and increasing coping skills.
Integrative body psychotherapy
A unique system of therapy that deeply understands and makes use of the interconnection between mind and body.
Schema therapy
Helps individuals identify the thought and behavior patterns underlying and perpetuating mental health conditions
Visualization
Used to create a strong mental image of a future event. With good use of visualization, you can practice in advance for the event, so that you can prepare properly for it. And by visualizing success, you can build the self-confidence you need to perform well.
Covert Extinction
Client first imagines performing an unwanted behavior and then imagines failing to be rewarded or to receive reinforcement for the behavior
Acceptance and commitment therapy
Focuses on helping individuals create a meaningful life and is often used with individuals with anxiety disorders.
Behavior rehearsal
Practicing appropriate behavior responses within social situations
