What is Intervention?
A
Allows a non-party, known as intervenor, to join an ongoing lawsuit because they have a vested interest in the case’s outcome

What is Intervention of Right and When must they be let in? Rule 24(a)
A
The Legal Right to Join the Case
Must be allowed when:
1. The intervenor claims an interest relating to the property or transaction that is the subject of the action
2. The disposition of the action may adversely affect that interest AND
3. The current parties do not adequately represent the intervenor’s right

What is Permissive Intervention and When may they be let in? Rule 24(b)
A
- A third party has filed a timely motion and
- It has a conditional right to intervene under a federal statute or it has a claim or defense that share a question of law or fact with the main action,
- Then the third party may be permitted to intervene.
