What is sarcoidosis?
Adaptive immune response throughout the body, in the absence of a pathogen
Describe the pathophysiology of sarcoidosis
T cells and macrophages are attracted to healthy tissue and form non caseating granulomas.
Where can the granulomas be found?
Can involve nearly every organ
However, most often involve the hilar lymph nodes of the lung
Risk factors for sarcoidosis?
Demographics: African American women
PMHx: prior infection with TB and Bonelia burgdorferi
Family history: of sarcoidosis
History?
Constitutional symptoms: fever, night sweats, fatigue, weight loss
Location specific symptoms
- Lungs: SOB, coughing
- Eyes: vision changes
- Skin: erythema nodosum

Management
Steroids
Immunomodulatory therapies - if corticosteroid refractory
