Interstitial Lung Disease Flashcards
What are the types of ILD?
- Idiopathic Interstital pneumonias
> Idiopathic Interstital Fibrosis - Granulomatous ILD
Sarcoidosis
Hypersensitivity pneumonitis - ILD of known association
Connective tissue disorders
Drugs
Occupational exposures - Miscallaneous
Pulmonary Langherans cell histocytosis
What is the most common ILD in older people?
Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis
What is the most common ILD In younger people?
pulmonary sarcoidosis in younger adults.
How is the pathophysiology of IPF different to that of other ILD?
It’s primary a process of fibrosis, whereas the other subtypes, inflammation occurs prior to development of fibrosis (AFP interstitital lung disease in 2015)
Management of IPF?
pulmonary rehabilitation
drugs for symptom control, such as drugs for gastro-oesophageal reflux, opioids for dyspnoea and short courses of corticosteroids for acute exacerbations
long-term oxygen therapy for patients with resting hypoxaemia; although oxygen may not improve symptoms.
Early lung transplant
Anti fibrotic agents – have shown to reduce the decline in LFT over 12 months
