Intersectional Matrix Of Dominance Flashcards
Race and education
Not all students have the same access to quality education, leading to an achievement gap where racial minorities face lower academic success
E.g. there are two students( black and white in race) who have the same qualifications and experience. It is likely for the white student to get the offer.
Race and sexuality
Individuals’ racial identities intersect with their sexuality. LGBTQ+ individuals of color face unique challenges due to multiple forms of marginalization.
E.g. disparities in Healthcare, employment and representation in media and society
Race and age
Ageism in the workplace can intersect with racism, leading to challenges for older adults of color in finding and maintaining employment.
E.g. they may face discrimination in hiring, promotion, as well as barriers to accessing job training
Race and ability
Racial minorities with disabilities have limited access to necessary resources and services such as assistive technology, transportation, and housing assistance.
Race and gender
Black women often face discrimination that stems from the intersection of racism and gender.
E.g. they may encounter stereotypes and bias such as “the black angry women”
Race and language
Racial minorities may face discrimination based on their language or accent. This discrimination is known as linguistic racism or xenophobia and manifests in various forms such as exclusion from opportunities or unequal treatment in educational or work settings
