Interproximal Caries Flashcards
What bur should be used for initial access?
small diamond fissure bur
What can be used to protect adjacent tooth?
wedge
matrix strip
Where is initial access?
through the marginal ridge. Where occlusal caries is also present, extend from occlusal enamel access towards the proximal at the level of the ADJ, then remove the occlusal caries.
What should be used to smooth acute CSMA?
ultra fine high speed diamond bur
What bur should be used to remove carious dentine?
with a round slow speed steel bur.
How long should you etch?
etch enamel for 10 secs and dentine for 10 secs
in total 20 secs
What should you do after etching?
rinse off the etch keeping surface moist
What must be used with a circumferential matrix to provide a tight contact point?
wedge
When placing the composite, what is important?
place in increments reducing CF (don’t bond axial walls)
make sure not to overmanipulate
What does overmanipulating do?
incorporates air which affects the set of the material as well as the mechanical properties making it look opaque
When is a RMGI lining used?
for unfit dentine or tertiary dentine
What can acute CSM angles and unsupported enamel do?
interstitial enamel fracture
under stresses of polymerisation contraction shrinkage
What is the gingival floor?
base of prepared cavity horizontal to gingiva
How can you remove unsupported enamel at the point of contact?
first change to a finishing burr - yellow band
turn off the water
don’t turn peddle to high
work slowly and carefully
