-unpleasant but necessary
-Loyalist violence increased to combat PIRA
-UDA formed September 1971
-UVF bombing increased
-Internment unsuccessful as the most wanted people had escaped arrest

-outpouring of grief
-parachute regiment carried out unprovoked attack
-Hostility towards stormont increased
-Increase in IRA membership and support
-British Embassy building in Dublin burnt down

-shocked and saddened
-victims not completely innocent as the March was illegal and there was IRA presence
-Due to IRA Violence the Ulster Vanguard was formed
-Large demonstration in Belfast to exhibit Unionist discontent
Reasons for Direct Rule
-Unionist rule was not effective
-Large increase in violence after Bloody Sunday and Bloody Friday

-Huge demonstrations were held
-strikes and shutdown’s
-Increase in support for loyalist paramilitaries such as UDA
-Unhappy that IRA had achieved shutting down Stormont

-Pleased at end of Unionist control
-IRA ceasefire
-1972 became blackest year of the troubles
-IRA then opposed direct rule as they viewed it as Britain trying to claim the Irish Country
-Ceasefire ends and IRA wants to push Britain out of Northern Ireland
-NICRA and Peoples democracy continue rights for reform
-IRA happy with shutting down Stormont
