Allowed prisoners who claimed they had broken the law for political reasons to be treated as prisoners of war. This was removed in March 1976 due to the criminalisation policy

Unionists- felt abandoned and betrayed by their own government and viewed thatcher as a traitor
Sinn Fein-made division in Ireland even more prominent as NI was recognised as its own country
