Lossless Data compression
The file of the data is reduced but the quality of the file is not affected
Examples:
- FLAC (sound files)
- png (graphic files)
Lossy Data compression
The file of the data is reduced but the quality of the file is reduced
Examples:
- Mp3 (audio)
- JPEG (images)
Encryption
Changes data into secret code to protect it from hackers or unauthorized access
Secure Sockets Layer (SSL)
The principle method of encryption on the internet
SSL uses two very,very large prime numbers
They are used to make public key and private key .
The number are multiplied and the answer is made into an encryption
Mac Address
Media access control address
A physical address or hardware address
The fixed address every network interface card has
It has 6 pairs of hexi-decimal numbers
IP address
Unique number for a computer network
One part of the address is the networkID and the final part is hostID
IPv4 Address
32 bit number made up of four 8 bit numbers
IPv6
New system of IP addressing still being introduced
there are 3.8 x 10^38 address
