Advantages :
1. Cheaper as only have to pay when you are using it.
2. Can be used anywhere there is a phone line.
Disadvantages :
1. Dial-up is very slow and limits its use - download on dial-up can take minutes compare to broadband.

2. It doesn’t tie up your phone line.
3. Makes videoconferencing possible.
Disadvantages:
1. Expensive as you have to pay monthly subscription.

Advantages :
1. Can access emails and Internet from anywhere.
2. Can work from anywhere-the office, home, outside on the move.
3. Can do more work, more productive.
4. Can make changes to plans on the go, meeting times or appointments.
Disadvantages :
1. Security problems with data being transferred over the Internet.
2. Theft more of a target for mugging.
3. Very expensive to purchase and contracts and not very cheap.
4. Some blackspots-with no access to Internet.

A

A Boolean search is a search using the operators AND, OR or NOT.
Using AND narrows a search by combining times-it will retrieve documents that use both the search terms you specify for example (School and Swindon).

Advantages:
1. Reduced cost as supercomputer is not needed.
2. To get more processing power you just need to add more PCs.
3. Work can be passed anywhere in the world using the Internet.
4. Improved performance as each computer can work on part of the data.
Disadvantages:
1. Security issues as data spread out on so many different computers.
2. Heavy reliance on networks and communication.

What is meant by FTP? Give one example of its use and describe one advantage for the company?

A

FTP is a standard Internet protocol, providing a simple way of transferring files between computers using Internet (network)/by a process which bunches the data into packages and sends messages back and forth to say each package has been received.
FTP can be used for uploading a database of sales from one branch of the organisation to the head office. One advantage of using FTP is that you are not limited to file size.

  2. Specialist staff-to maintain the website, update prices and stock.
  3. Electronic catalogue/Database of stock-details of items, number left in stock, prices.
  4. Database of customer orders-keeps details of what everyone has bought.
  5. Shopping basket-will include details of products ordered, with prices and current total spent. Secure electronic payment ( paypal).
