What does ICF classify?
A person’s function and social role, NOT medical diagnosis
Integrates physical, social, and mental aspects of health
Health Condition
a disease, disorder, injury, or trauma or other circumstance including aging, stress, congenital abnormality, or genetic predisposition
Impairment
Problems an individual has in body function or structure (physiological, musculoskeletal, neurological)
Activity Limitation
Functional impairment or difficulties an individual has in executing tasks or actions
Participation Restriction
Problems an individual experiences in involvement in life situations and societal interactions (psychosocial)

Primary Impairment
Occurs directly from the original pathology
Must address these areas to attempt prevention of secondary impairments
Secondary Impairment
Develops over time due to ineffective and/or maladaptive posture and movement strategies
Contextual Factors
Internal and external influences on an individual’s overall function
Personal factors AND environmental factors
