Q

Explain what van der waals are and what they mean

A

Electron charge clouds electrons are more likely to be in one area to another so attract. Always created and destroyed but over all they are attracted. Larger molecules larger van der waals
Shape effects them
Liquids with stronger van der waals will have higher melting points

Q

Explain what hydrogen bonds are?

A

Only happens when hydrogen bonded to nof atoms

Cos v electronegative

V strong

High melting points

Ice hydrogen bonds in regular lattice so further apart so ice less dense
