A: elevates superior 4 ribs to increase size of thorax
N: ventral primary rami of first 3-4 thoracic nerves

O: spinous process T11-L2
I: inferior 3-4 ribs
A: depress inferior 3-4 ribs to prevent superior pull by diaphragm
N: ventral primary rami of last 4 thoracic nerves
