Interior/Exterior angles Flashcards
What are interior angles?
Interior angles of the polygon are the angles INSIDE of the shape.
How is an interior angle formed?
It is formed where two sides meet at a vertex.
How do we solve for the interior angle of a polygon?
(number of sides - 2) x 180= sum of interior angles
If we are given the angle how do we find the number of sides?
Simple!
The equation would be- (sum of interior angles) divided by 180 plus 2
Example on how to solve for the num. of sides given the angle
n= Number of sides
(n-2) x 180 = 2160
(n - 2) = 2160 ÷ 180= 12
to find the tot.= 12 + 2= 14
Therefore the total number of sides is 14
What is an exterior angle?
The angle formed between the extended line and the other side of the polygon is called an exterior angle. (the angle on the outside)
The sum of the exterior angles for a regular polygon is ___
360 degrees
How do we find one exterior angle for a REGULAR polygon?
ITS SIMPLE MY FRIEND!
we just divide 360 by the number of sides
How do we find one exterior angle for an IRREGULAR polygon?
For an irregular polygon, you would have to calculate each ext. angle = 180° - int. angle
(cuz its a straight angle)
