Q

What is trim used for

A
  • uses airflow to apply force in opposite direction
  • neutralize/reduce pressure
  • relieves sloppy control and pilot fatigue
  • UP: NOSE UP, ELEVATOR UP, TAIL DOWN
  • DOWN: NOSE DOWN, ELEVATOR DOWN, TAIL UP

Q

What is the purpose of flaps?

A
  • Increase lift, increase drag, decrease stalling speed
  • T/O & Land at slower speeds and shorter distance
  • to descend or reduce speed
  • allow a steeper descend rate and angle w/o increase in speed
  • change curvature of wing
  • changes speed of stall (w/ full flaps = 40 KTS, w/o = 48 KTS)
  • reduces t/o ground roll
  • reduces total distance to clear an obstacle by 10%
