Interim 3 Rules Flashcards
What areas are designated permitted working in ABS?
Shunting yards
Sidings
Station limits
Details in table A - sectional appendix
What does clearance of a shunting signal authorise a driver to do?
Proceed at extreme caution.
Expect line to be obstructed.
Travel only as far as required or next stop signal.
Travel at speed you can stop in distance you can see line is clear.
What is a repeater signal and how identified?
Repeater cannot display a red aspect but relates to a signal that can.
Identified by ‘R’ or ‘RR’ before the red signal.
Define bi-directional line
A line where signalling provided in both directions with no priority of direction.
Define reversible line and max speed.
A line where the normal flow of traffic has priority and the reversible is used occasionally in degraded situations.
Max speed 85mph
You see both lights out on a limit of shunt indicator applicable to your line - what must you do?
Stop
Report to signaller immediately
Complete RT3185
Only 3 light illuminated in junction indicator
Stop at convenient opportunity.
Report to signaller.
Complete RT3185 before booking off.
How do you identify an electric token?
Colour coded.
Section of route it relates to is stamped on it.
What is the authority to enter single line worked by electric token?
Token and Signal
Under what circs may driver enter a single line without possession of token?
PALMS
Pilotman Working
Assisting a failed train
Line under possession
MWA
Shunting past section signal with authority
Rules for receipt, conveyance and delivery of token.
Stop the train.
Ensure correct token received.
Carry token in driving cab.
Surrender token at end of single line.
Why would a pilotman be introduced in single lines?
Token is Lost
Obstruction - to/from
Signal cannot be cleared because:
Disconnection or failure
Equipment failure, TC or signalling
Level Crossing failure
Token machine failure
What does OTDR stand for?
What is it’s purpose?
On Train Data Recorder.
Able to check driver standards.
Assist in investigations by recording status of inputs i.e. speed, distance, time, CPBC positions, WSP, Horn, Doors and AWS.
TPWS meaning and purpose
Train Protection and Warning System.
Triggers emergency brake application if:
Train too fast approaching Red, buffer stop or speed restriction.
AWS not reset.
Signal passed at danger.
TPWS grids found where?
Approach to and at some signals.
Approach to buffers and PSRs.
Describe how TPWS protect signals.
Arming loop and trigger loop positioned on approach to a signal - Overspeed sensors.
Another pair at the signal with no gap - Train stop sensors.
