As a driver, how can you be prepared for duty?

A

1, well rested
2, no alcohol prior to shift
3, bag packed with all drivers equipment
4, food and drink prepped for shift.
5, in full uniform
6, armed with late notices/WONs and diagram
7, aware of any out of course events (leaflet fall forecast/blanket speed restrictions)

What are some examples of cab discipline/ettiqute/rules?

A

1, maintain concentration
2, do not access your bag or gather your belongings whilst on the move.
3, uncluttered desk
4, have drink and sunglasses to hand
5, place break into full service if leaving the cab.
6, do not change frontal lights on the move.
7, allow plenty of time to set up driving cab
8, only move train, when happy all safety system check ups/set up complete.
9, avoid preparing food and drink when driving the cab.
10, whilst PQA do not allow anyone to travel in the cab, unless assessor/manager/pilot/shunter
11, ensure to check cab passes for anyone wanting to travel in the driving cab

A

1, Green - competent in driver operations authorised to instruct/assess.
2, Blue - colleagues with operational competence and PTS (guards)
3, Yellow - competent in PTS only (network rail/ORR)
4, Purple - no PTS or Ops competence. GWR colleagues such as controllers. (Emergency, act on drivers instructions)
5, Black - route learning
