Robin Dunbar posits that 150 is a realistic number of followers, larger than that is unrealistic with respect to time, ability to stay engaged and input any emotion.

Pareto’s Principle
80-20 rule on everything though the Internet/web 2 may flatten this into a long tail due to easy transmission of niche interest.
