Pre-Departure Stage
= the stage before you leave to your destination, here you need to work hard and prepare.
The main feelings in this stage are uncertainty and anxiety
Vacation Stage
= in this phase everything is nice, good & new.
The main feelings in this stage are positivity & full of energy
Angry Stage
= people do not seem to get you and you blame difficulties on cultural difference
= culture shock
The main feelings here are disappointment and disillusion
Adjustment Stage
= you learn more about the new culture, you start to connect with it more and understand it better. You start seeing things from their POV.

Re-entry Stage
= the process of fitting back into your old culture
What is typical about alienated returnees?
They are not able to put their newly developed skills to use at their old job, it drives them to look for a new job often in the country they just came from.
What is typical about re-socialized returnees?
They easily slip back into old roles and perform as if they have never been away.
This is a loss to the company because new skills are not implemented.
What is typical about proactive returnees?
These returnees are able to put their new international skills to use at their old jobs.
This will only work if the headquarters gives returnees the room to implement their new skills
What is the definition of Culture Shock?
A process of adjusting from living in a familiar, predictable environment to living in a country where everything is new
What are the stages of reverse culture shock (W-curve) ?
