Predator
Something that eats another animal.
Prey
Something that gets eaten by a predator.
Energy Pyramid
The way energy is passed through an ecosystem.
Primary Producer
An organism that makes it’s energy from the sun.
Primary Consumer
An organism that gets it’s energy from eating a producer.
Secondary Consumer
An organism that gets it’s energy from eating a primary consumer.
Tertiary Consumer
An organism that gets it’s energy from eating a primary or secondary consumer.
Decomposer
Something that gets it’s energy from dead animals or decaying matter.
10% Rule
“When a consumer eats a producer or another consumer, it only get 10%, as 90% of energy consumed gets sent to life processes.”
Symbiosis
A relationship in which two different organisms live in close association with each other.
Parasitism
One species benefits of another species, which is harmed.
Commensalism
One organism benefits and the other is unaffected.
Mutualism
Both species benefit; sometimes depend on each other to survive.
Quaternary Consumer
Something that eats a primary, secondary, or tertiary consumer.
