Define interactionalism
How people in society interact with each other
What does Becker believe
That an act only becomes deviant when others perceive and define it as such
What did Lembert say
There are two levels of deviance, primary and secondary
What is primary deviance
Deviance that’s not been publicity labelled as deviant, few consequences
Secondary deviance
Occurs when the act is discovered, made public or label “deviant” applied. May lead to a person adopting this label and this become ig their master status.
What’s a master status
Over ride any other view they have of themselves, once label applied it’s difficult for both individual and society to alter behaviour
What’s the self fulfilling prophecy
Peoples predictions of them become true
