Interaction Flashcards
Predation
-One organism captures and feeds on another organism
-e.g Lion to zebras
Inhabitation
-When one organism prevents another from obtaining resources from the ecosystem
-e.g pine tree drops acidic pine needles on the soils around it to make sure no plants grow there
Symbiosis
-The act of living together
-2 organisms live together temporarily or for a long period of time
-at least one organism benefits from the relationship
Commensalism
-one member from the association is benefiting, and the other is neither helped or harmed
-e.g little fishes attach onto sharks and wait for its next attack to get the residue of the prey then un-attatch themselves as the not slow the shark down
Competition
-when organisms compete for the same resource at the same time
-e.g Sunflowers competing for the sun
Collaboration
-easily confused with mutualism
-intraspecies- when organisms from the same species help each other out
-e.g monkeys taking turns picking off fleas off of each other
Mutualism
-Interspecies
-when organisms live together and help eachother out, both benefit
-bees pollinate flowers while taking pollen for their honey
Parasitism
-when 2 organisms are living together, and one benefits and the other (host) is getting no benefits and may be harmed
-e.g Parasite in a human
