Inter molecular Forces LSo ETr Flashcards
1
Q
What is the strongest type of intermolecular force?
A
Hydrogen bonding
2
Q
How does Iodine bond in a crystal?
A
Very weak Van der Waal forces between the molecules of iodine.
3
Q
Why does helium (He) have a lower melting point than Xenon (Xe)?
A
There is less electrons in helium, so there will be less Van der Waal forces between molecules, so less enery is needed to overcome this.
4
Q
What elements covalently bond to hydrogen for intermolecular hydrogen bonding to occur?
A
Oxygen, Fluorine and Nitrogen
5
Q
What is the strongest intermolecular force in hydrogen chloride (HCl)?
A
Permanent dipole/dipole-dipole
