Intelligence Flashcards
Intelligence Cycle
1. Collect
Analyze and Assess Throughout
Collection is synchronized to provide critical information at key times throughout the phases of an operation and during the transition from one operation to another.
- Information Collection
- Intelligence Operations
- Security Operations
- Recon
- Surveillance
Intelligence Cycle
2. Produce
Analyze and Assess Throughout
Production is the development of information and intelligence through the analysis of collected information.
- Intelligence Estimate
- Intelligence Summary
- Staff Estimate
- Common Operational Picture
Intelligence Cycle
3. Disseminate
Analyze and Assess Throughout
Commanders must receive combat information and intelligence products in time and in an appropriate format to facilitate situational understanding and support decision making.
- Command Channels
- Staff Channels
- Technical Channels
Intelligence Cycle
4. Plan and Direct
Analyze and Assess Throughout
Intelligence analysts must prepare detailed planning products for the commander and staff for orders production and the conduct of operations.
- Intelligence Preparation of the Battlefield.
- Planning Requirements and Assessing Collection
- Generating Intelligence Knowledge
- Research and Intelligence Reach
COLLECTION MANAGEMENT
Set of procedures that orchestrate intelligence organizations and systems to focus the intelligence effort in support of Commanders across the military operational continuum and performed at all echelons.
Collection begins as soon as mission requirements are identified.
COLLECTION MANAGEMENT
1. DEVELOP REQUIREMENT
- PARTICIPATE IN STAFF WARGAMING
- ANALYZE REQUIREMENTS:
- RECORD
- VALIDATE
- CONSOLIDATE
- PRIORITIZE
- DEVELOP SIR SETs
Collection Management
2.DEVELOP COLLECTION PLAN
- EVALUATE RESOURCES
- DEVELOP COLLECTION STRATEGY
- SELECT RESOURCES
- SYNCH COLLECTION TO REQUIREMENTS
- DEVELOP SOR SETs
- PRIORITIZE SORs FOR COLLECTION ASSETS
Collection management
3.TASK OR REQUEST COLLECTION
DETERMINE TASKING OR REQUEST MECHANISM
- EXECUTE AND IMPLEMENT
- COLLECT AND EXPLOIT
Collection Management
4. DISSEMINATE
- ARRANGE DIRECT DISSEMINATIONS
- DETERMINE PERISHABILITY
- DETERMINE HOW MUCH TO DISSEMINATE
- IDENTIFY MEDIA FOR DISSEMINATION
- DISSEMINATE
Collection Management
5. EVALUATE REPORTING
- MONITOR AND MAINTAIN SYNCH
- CORRELATE REPORTS TO REQUIREMENT
- SCREEN REPORTS
- PROVIDE FEEDBACK TO COLLECTORS AND EXPLOITERS
Collection Management
6.UPDATE COLLECTION PLANNING
Start Over
- ELIMINATE SATIFIED REQUIREMENTS
- REDIRECT ASSESTS TO UNSATIFIED REQUIREMENT
- CUE ASSETS TO COLLECTION OPPORTUNITIES
- MAINTAIN SYNCHRONIZATION
- ADD NEW REQUIREMENTS
Indicator
An item of information that reflects the intention or capability of an adversary to adopt or reject a course of action. Predictive analysis. Increased human traffic near border vic Jalalabad.
Specific Information Requirements (SIR
Indicators in question form. Has there been an increase in foot/vehicle traffic near the border east of Jalalabad, IVO PQ4538?
Specific Orders Request (SOR
An order / task given to a collector, asset, or unit designed to answer SIR. Report one or more vehicles or one or more personnel crossing the border the IVO PQ4538.
Named Area Of Interest (NAI)
A city, a section of a border, a point on a mobility corridor large enough to encompass activity. Also take into consideration assets available.
Target Area Of Interest (TAI)
an area or point along an infiltration route or a mobility corridor; point within a NAI.
Collection Requirements Management (CRM
The development and control of collection, processing, exploitation, and/or reporting requirements resulting in either the direct tasking of assets over which the collection manager has authority, or the generation of tasking requests to collection management authorities.
The CRM process defines what intelligence systems must collect.
The CRM process develops SIR / SOR sets from the consolidated, validated, and prioritized list of PIR / IR, CDRs intent, objectives and the current situation.
Collection Operations Management (COM)
The direction, scheduling, and control of specific collection operations and associated processing, exploitation, and reporting resources; includes the selection and tasking of specific assets and sensors.
CENTER OF GRAVITY ANALYSIS
Center of gravity
the set of characteristics, capabilities, and sources of power from which a system derives its moral or physical strength, freedom of action, and will to act.
CENTER OF GRAVITY ANALYSIS
Critical capabilities
those capabilities deemed to be crucial enablers for a center of gravity to function as such and are essential to achieve the desired objectives.
CENTER OF GRAVITY ANALYSIS
Critical requirements
essential conditions, resources, and means for a critical capability to be fully operational. These may be such things as communications nodes, bandwidth, or financial resources to buy weapons or influence.
CENTER OF GRAVITY ANALYSIS
Critical vulnerabilities
those aspects or components of critical requirements that are deficient, or vulnerable to direct or indirect attack in a manner that achieves decisive or significant results. CV’s are the equivalent to HVT’s.
