Q

what are 3 flaws with galton’s ‘intelligence as sensory capacity’ theory?

A
  1. fails to detect the relationship between sensory acuity and how smart intelligent people behave (not all people with strong senses are considered intelligent)
  2. fails to address why the ability to have good vision is not correlated or related to your ability to have good hearing, good senses
  3. Humans have the weakest sensory system compared to other animals. does that make animals more intelligent than humans?

Q

what was francis galton’s initial theory of intelligence? what is it about and how did he capture evidence for it?

A

Galton’s theory was called Intelligence as Sensory Capacity. idea was that intelligence is exposure to alot of sensory stimulating things and the ability of the senses to take in information.

Q

what was the result from simon and binet’s first intelligence test?

A

they noticed that the questions were correlated with one another and the response to one question correlated to the response with another despite the fact that they were coming from different domains

Q

what is the difference between how western culture views intelligence vs how eastern cultures view it?

Q

what theory resulted from simon and binet’s test findings? what is it called and what forms of intelligence is it composed of?

A

Generalized (G & S) Intelligence is what resulted from simon and binet’s test results. It claims that we acquire specific knowledge that is not inter changeable and that theres thousands of specific intelligences under one big pool of intelligence

Q

what are 3 flaws with the G&S intelligence theory and the simon and binets predictions?

A
  1. responses are clumpy and only apply to some questions not all
  2. performance has overlap with very broad categories of intelligence rather than narrow

Q

what does the multiple intelligence theory suggest (as compared to G&S theory)?

Q

who are savants? what makes them significantly different than regular talented individuals?

A

savants are individuals with innate capacities for doing specific types of tasks (advanced in one of the categories of multiple intelligence). The only difference between them is that they have profound deficits in other intelligences (e.g. autistic)
