WHAT IS INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY?k
Intellectual property is a product of someone’s intellect that has commercial value and may be exploited. It provides legal rights of ownership and control and is typified by copyright of artistic and literary works, patents, trademarks, and design rights.
COPYRIGHT
The protection of copyright is afforded to anyone’s creation of a literary, dramatic, musical, or artistic work or the creation by an employee who is contracted to create such works.
WHAT IS PROTECTED?
- Literary works:This includes books, computer software programs, song lyrics, and even instruction manuals.
- Music and broadcasts : Including films, videos, and radio shows.
- Dramatic productions: Including plays, dances, and sound recordings.
4.Artistic works:This is wide-ranging and includes drawings, diagrams, logos, photographs, and so on.
RIGHTS PROVIDED THROUGH COPYRIGHT
The owner’s legal rights allow him/her to:
1. Copy and distribute copies of the work to the public; 2. Issue copies to the public;
3. Perform, show, or play the work in public; and
4. Broadcast the work to the public.
