conceptual skills- oral/written language, time, money
social skills- self esteem, social responsibility, following rules, interpersonal skills
practical skills- everyday life, occupational, travel, schedules
prenatal causes of ID
chromosomal disorders, inborn errors of metabolism, developmental disorders of brain formation, environmental factors
perinatal causes
anoxia (deprivation of oxygen), low birth weight, syphilis and herpes
postnatal causes
biological, psychosocial, child abuse
prevalence of ID
3% of the population
id with IQ of 50-69
mild, intermittent (short term support)
id with IQ of 40-54
moderate, limited (regular but brief support)
id with IQ of 25-39
severe, extensive (ongoing regular assistance home care)
id with IQ under 25
profound, pervasive (life support skilled medical care)
