A

connective tissue membrane, it lines the fibrous connective tissue in the joints of the skeletal system

Q

epidermis

A

outermost layer of skin, most cells in this layer are keratinocytes (the rest are melanocytes), it contains pores in which glands secrete oil and sweat onto skin’s surface

Q

what are the ABCD’s of skin cancer?

A

most common type is basal cell carcinoma, malignant melanoma is more serious, A- assymetry B- border (indistinct and blend in to surrounding skin), C- color (multicolored mix of black/brown/purple), D- diameter (large - 6mm or bigger)

Q

dermis

A

thicker layer beneath the epidermis, cells in this layer are mostly fibroblasts, divided into the papillary region, and reticular region (deeper, thicker)

Q

hypodermis

A

aka subcutaneous layer or superficial fascia, made of loose connective tissue containing (adipose tissue - aka fat deposits). this layer insulates the body and stores energy, rich in blood and lymph vessels, nerves and sensory receptors
