What are the four major functions of the integument system?

- Physical protection
- Sensation
- Metabolism (eg. vitamin D production/fat storage)
- Thermoregulation and osmoregulation

People who are born without sweat glands are likely to die of heat stroke in the tropics. What is the consequence of this regarding heat transfer at the skin?
A
The skin is unable to cool by evaporation. The only way of cooling will by via vasodilation and radiative cooling (letting off heat). But the net effect may be gaining, rather than losing, heat by radiation.
