Why do hairs turn white and then gray as an animal ages?
As the animal ages melanin production in the growth zone decreases and eventually when the hair becomes white the cortex loses its pigment entirely and the medulla becomes air-filled
What factors stimulate contraction of the arrector pili muscles?
Fear and cold.
Name 2 types of sweat gland? How are they different from one another?
Apocrine (empty into hair follicles) Eccrine (empty onto the skin)
Where are anal sacs found and what is their importance to animals?
On either side of the anus and they used for scent marking
