Instruments, Engines, Systems Flashcards
Magnetic Deviation
the difference between a normal compass and the one installed on an airplane. created by interference of metals and systems. Changes with heading.
Magnetic Variation
The difference between true north and magnetic north.
ANDS
accelerate north, decelerate south (only applies on east-west headings in northern atmosphere)
UNOS
undershoot north, overshoot south.
Pitot Static System Instruments
Altimeter, Vertical Speed Indicator, Airspeed Indicator
Pitot Tube
provides impact (ram) pressure for the airspeed indicator.
White Arc
full flap operating range
Vso
Power Off stalling speed - flaps extended, gear down (stuff out) (bottom of white arc)
Vfe
Maximum Flaps Extended Speed
Green Arc
Normal Operating Range
Vs1
power off stall speed, flaps up (bottom of green arc)
Vno
Maximum Structural cruising speed (top of green arc) (normal operation)
Yellow Arc
known as caution range, safe for smooth air only
Vne
Red Line. Never exceeded in any circumstances.
