- Delivers oxygen at 6-10l/min
- Only used for patients who can breath on their own
- Uncontrollable oxygen concentration

- Used in medical emergencies that require oxygen therapy
- Patient has to be able to breath unassisted
- Can deliver quite high concentrations of oxygen
