What are cryers elevator?
Have an appearance of a flag at the tip
For removing fragments or retained root apices
Also for removing interradicular bone
Should not be used on upper 3rd molars there is a risk of fracturing the maxillary tuberosity
You can tell left from right by the curve of the tip, they will be curving up in the corresponding hand
What is a luxator?
An instrument to severe the PDL
It has a sharp round end to it
Designed to be forced apically which displaces the root
Mainly used for retained roots or to prepare a tooth for forceps
What are warrick James elevators?
Hockey stick shape
Used for the extraction of buccaly placed upper wisdom teeth
What is a couplands chisel?
There are 3 sizes, most often use smallest size
Has a flat tip (compared to the curved tip of a luxator)
Has a wider tip than a luxator
Used to lever the tooth out rather than severing the PDL
