Why inspect?
Plays a major part in ensuring the on-going safety of personnel, equipment and the environment.
What are the grades of inspection?
Detailed, Close and Visual.
What is an initial type of inspection?
Inspection of all electrical equipment, systems and installations before they are brought into service, to check that the selected type of protection and its installation is appropriate. Initial inspections should be detailed as referred to in IEC 60079-17 tables 1,2,3,4. Results should be recorded.
What is a periodic type of inspection?
An inspection of all equipment carried out on a routine basis. The inspection may be visual or close as appropriate. A visual or close periodic inspection may lead to the need for a detailed inspection. The interval between periodic inspections should not exceed three years without seeking expert advice. Results should be recorded.
What is a sample type of inspection?
Inspection of a proportion of the installed equipment. The inspection may be visual, close or detailed. The size and composition of the samples should be determined with regard to the purpose of the inspection by a competent, experienced appropriate superior technical authority. Results should be recorded.
