Difference between Dry Rot and Wet Rot
Both are forms of fungal decay.
Dry Rot:
- Can spread throughout building.
- Deep cracks across grain with evidence of white sheets (Mycelium growth).
- Lemon colour in light.
- Timber will be brown and will crumble.
- Fruiting bodies - disperse spores.
- More serious
Wet Rot:
- Usually localised.
- Spongy feel to wood.
- Black fungus.
- Usually damages paintwork.
- Advanced state, wood is dry and crumbly.
