Insoluble and soluble salts Flashcards
What is a soluble salt?
A salt which dissolves in water.
What is an insoluble salt?
A salt which does not dissolve in water.
How can you prepare a soluble salt from an acid and an insoluble base?
Add excess reactant, filter the excess reactant out and heat the remaining solution to remove the water.
Which technique is used to prepare a soluble salt from an acid and an alkali?
Titration (then heat the remaining solution to remove the water)
List the equipment needed for a titration
pipette, burette, conical flask, indicator, white tile
What is a precipitation reaction?
a reaction where two soluble reactants produce an insoluble product
After a precipitation reaction, how can the insoluble product be separated from the reaction mixture?
filter using filter paper, wash with distilled water, leave the filter paper to dry
